Text-based SMS (Short Message Service) is mainly due to unexpectedly popular young people, they found that SMS is a cheap alternative to a cell phone call technology. However, a forthcoming new service may replace SMS.

This service is MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service). MMS will allow mobile device users to send pictures between mobile devices, voice and video. One industry source said: "MMS's success depends on the successful deployment of GPRS. Manufacturers must recognize that the user can use only their products and content available currently not interested in the future."

Forrester's research found that European use of PDA functionality with Web access to Internet, increased rapidly, from 700 million in 2000 to 3.02 million of this year.
